Block.one, the company behind EOS and the EOSIO protocol, first made its social media intentions clear in June this year, when it announced it would be launching Voice.

The new social media network will make use of the EOS blockchain platform.

Users of the Voice platform will be able to reward or gift one another with Voice Tokens, per a Voice blog post. The company also claimed that “tens of thousands” of internet users had expressed their interest in trying out the beta when it makes its Valentine’s Day debut next year.

Block.one says it is taking steps to avoid regulatory pitfalls. Governments, central banks and more all over the world are still lining up to take a swipe at Facebook’s Libra project, which is also set to make its bow in 2020.

The EOS developer wrote,

“We’re in the midst of an ongoing, open conversation with legislators and regulators to make sure Voice is ready for users.”

The company says that its new platform will “cut out opaque one-sided data auctioneering, eliminating hidden algorithms and cycle value back into users’ hands in the form of the Voice Token.”

Meanwhile, the price of EOS dropped by 67% since Block.one announced the Voice project in June. At pixel time (15:13 UTC), EOS trades at c. USD 2.7 and is almost unchanged in a day. It’s down by 4% in a week and by 25% in a month. The price is still up by 24% in a year.
