Visit CypherockPros & Cons of Cypherock X1
Cypherock X is ideal for traders who prefer using seedless wallets, thanks to the Shamir Secret Sharing algorithm that splits your private keys into 5 shards. These shards will be stored on both the X1 device (vault) and the X1 cards that come alongside it. This system eliminates the need to use seed phrases.
The cold wallet supports 9,000+ digital assets, making it suitable for traders with diverse crypto portfolios.
We’ve noticed that Cypherock X doesn’t support direct storage of NFTs on the Solana network. However, you’ll be able to interact with NFTs and DeFi through WalletConnect.
We also loved the wallet’s customization options. For example, you can stamp the X1 cards with your NFTs and logos, making Cypherock X a go-to wallet for businesses that want to increase their presence in the crypto space.
On the downside, the Cypherock’s screen is quite small (0.96 inches), which makes navigating through the settings a bit frustrating, especially if you’re used to larger displays. Moreover, the X1 cards are made of plastic, which could deter users who prefer metal-backed hardware wallets. However, you shouldn’t doubt their durability. Namely, the X1 cards support over 500,000+ taps and ensure 20+ years of data retention.
Pros

- Long-term data retention (20+ years)
- Customizable branding options for businesses
Cons
- Small display
- X1 cards are made out of plastic
- Doesn’t support direct storage of NFTs on the Solana network
Note: Cypherock X1 has over 1,640 ratings from its buyers, with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.
What Is Cypherock X1?
Launched in 2022, Cypherock X1 is a hardware wallet that supports over 9,000 digital assets, including major assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and a wide range of ERC-20 tokens. It also lets you store NFTs and access DeFi apps through WalletConnect.
Its unique key sharding technology splits your private key across four cards, eliminating the need for seed phrase backups and providing decentralized security for long-term crypto storage. With this system, even if one or two X1 cards are lost, you can still recover your funds securely. With that in mind, you’ll be able to sign transactions by placing two of your X1 cards on the vault, which will temporarily reconstruct your private key and sign the transaction.
Cypherock’s co-founders Rohan Agarwal and Vipul Saini, alongside the rest of the team behind the project, created X1 to address common vulnerabilities in existing hardware wallets. Their goal is to provide a solution that is both secure and user-friendly, empowering users to safely manage their crypto portfolios without worrying about seed phrases or centralized storage risks.

Cypherock X1 Pricing and Fees

The Cypherock X1 set originally cost $199. However, its recent flash deal discounted its price to $159.
When purchasing parts separately (in case you need them), the card set works up to $79, while the vault (the hardware wallet device itself) is priced at $89. Additionally, you can purchase a hardcase for $59 in case you need another one.
Item | Package contents | Price |
Cypherock X1 | 1 x X1 Vault, 4 x X1 Cards, Hard Case | $159 |
X1 Cards | 4 x X1 Cards | $79 |
X1 Vault | 1 x X1 Vault | $89 |

Regarding fees, Cypherock imposes no transaction costs for sending or receiving crypto. You’ll only have to cover the network fees. You can also adjust those when sending crypto through the cySync app.
Note: If you intend to buy Cypherock X1, make sure to do so either via their official website or through one of the official resellers. This way, you can ensure that the device is authentic and that no one has tampered with it.
How Secure Is the Cypherock X1 Hardware Wallet?
Regarding security, Cypherock uses both industry-standard and unique security measures. Based on our research and testing, their system is highly secure and well thought through.
A non-custodial wallet usually stores your seed phrase and requires you to store it on paper or steel. The seed phrase on the wallet itself is stored either on an online device (in the case of software wallets) or offline (in the case of hardware wallets). Cypherock, however, does things a bit differently.

Its key sharding technology splits your seed phrase into five cryptographic parts and stores them separately using Shamir’s Secret Sharing. If you want to use your wallet and spend crypto, you need 2 out of the 5 parts of the key (vault and 1 out of 4 cards) to access your funds. This way, you can either give the remaining cards to a designated guardian or keep them in a safe place.
Cypherock also lets you add a PIN to further protect your funds in case someone steals 2 of the 5 key parts. However, this brings some extra complexity into the equation, so you must be careful when enabling it.
Code-wise, Cypherock uses a mix of open-source code (in the case of its vault) to tackle computation and CC EAL 6+ secure element closed-source technology (in the case of its X1 cards) to enable decentralized private key storage. The project has been fully audited by Keylabs, an industry leader in penetration testing that had previously spotted vulnerabilities in both Ledger and Trezor hardware wallet devices.
Is Cypherock X1 User-Friendly?
For a hardware wallet, Cypherock X1 is extremely user-friendly. This is mostly thanks to its easy-to-use cards and vault device, which has a simple yet effective joystick. However, we have to note that the initial learning curve may be slightly steeper simply because you must use the vault, cards, and app simultaneously during the crypto wallet setup.
Regarding the vault, the interface is extremely simple and intuitive. While the screen is not the best (or largest) on the market, it’s more than good enough to satisfy your needs. On the other hand, the vault’s joystick is super-responsive, although not as convenient as a touchscreen.
The X1 cards are the size of a regular credit card and come with an RFID-blocking sleeve, which acts as a protective cover that prevents unauthorized scanning. Using them is as simple as tapping them onto the vault device, just like any other NFC device.
When using the cySync app, everything remains user-friendly and straightforward. From the initial setup and card configuration to using Wallet Connect to access DeFi, Cypherock has ensured the process is as intuitive as possible. The cySync app is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, as well as Android and iOS devices (15.1 or later).
Key Features of the Cypherock X1 Hardware Wallet
Let’s look at some of the key features of Cypherock X1.
1. Innovative Approach to Security: Shamir Secret Sharing
At the heart of the Cypherock X1 is its groundbreaking approach to security, driven by key sharding technology called Shamir’s Secret Sharing. Instead of relying on the traditional seed phrase backup process, the Cypherock X1 hardware wallet eliminates the need for this vulnerable element.
Instead, it splits your private key across four separate cards, each holding one part of the key. This, on top of the fact that the wallet is offline and the optional PIN you can place on the device, makes it extremely difficult for hackers or thieves to access your funds, even if one or more of the cards are lost or stolen. By spreading the key across multiple devices, Cypherock provides a new layer of security that’s not found in traditional wallets.
2. Protection Against Remote and Physical Attacks
Cypherock uses multiple built-in protection systems to safeguard your wallet from remote and physical attacks. First, its vault and cards are authenticated through the Cypherock server, which will detect supply chain attacks before you start using your wallet.
In addition, Cypherock uses an email authentication system that will help you find out if the companion cySync app is genuine or not. Cypherock X1 won’t generate a seed phrase or display your private key during the initialization process, which minimizes the chances of phishing attacks.
Finally, Cypherock uses ultrasonic welding on its vault device, which means that any attempt to tamper with the wallet will leave visible marks or damage. The vault also uses fixed, unchangeable code, which fortifies your device against flash attacks and unauthorized firmware modifications.
3. Portfolio Managemet
Cypherock X1 lets you create up to four wallets, each with its own unique private key. This makes it highly versatile for investors with diverse portfolios, as it lets you import private keys from other software or hardware wallets (e.g., Metamask, Trezor) into the Cypherock vault for easy management and maximum security.
With the ability to manage over 9,000 cryptocurrencies, the X1 accommodates both mainstream and niche assets. Additionally, the wallet’s support extends to decentralized finance (DeFi) tokens and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) through its partnership with WalletConnect, allowing you to interact with the latest blockchain innovations securely.
Another part of Cypherock’s versatility is the fact that you can manage your entire portfolio from the cySync app, which we found highly intuitive and easy to get used to:
4. cySync App
cySync is the official companion app for the Cypherock X1 hardware wallet. It lets you send and receive digital assets, track their prices in real time, and swap between 1,000+ cryptocurrencies across 15+ blockchains. It also gives you access to over 15 dApps, such as Uniswap, Lido, Zerion, and Gnosis Safe.
The cySync app is available in multiple languages, including English, German, Arabic, Chinese, and Indonesian, and as a desktop and mobile app.
What we liked most about it is the ability to adjust transaction fees when sending cryptocurrencies. Keep in mind that setting fees too low can result in the transaction remaining unprocessed for a long time. That is why we advise you to adjust the fees based on network traffic or to use automatic options.
The only downside of the cySync app is its size. Namely, you’ll need 4 GB of free space to install the app on your desktop. In addition, you’ll need to meet the following minimum system requirements for the desktop version:
- CPU: Intel® Core™ i3-6100 processor
- RAM: 8 GB
- OS: Windows 10
- Free Disk Space: 4 GB
5. Resilience and Recovery
Cypherock X1 goes beyond security and versatility by offering a resilient recovery process. Its multi-device recovery system allows you to restore your crypto wallets even if one or two cards are lost. This feature provides peace of mind, ensuring that funds can still be accessed and recovered without compromising security.
Additionally, the long-term data retention capability – over 20 years – means that your wallet’s essential data remains intact and secure for decades. These features make Cypherock X1 not only a highly secure hardware wallet but also a reliable option for long-term crypto storage, perfect for investors who are in crypto for the long run.
On that note, Cypherock has developed a beneficiary service that allows you to securely transfer your assets to someone else in case something happens to you:
6. Cypherock Cover
Cypherock Cover is a censorship-resistant hardware-based security service that lets you recover your digital assets in case you lose your PIN or are in a situation where you want to transfer your assets to your heirs. It allows you to designate nominees who’ll be able to gain access to your funds. Using this service doesn’t require KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. The process is also non-custodial, which means that neither Cypherock nor third parties will have access to your funds.
Cypherock Cover offers two different plans: The Silver plan ($99/wallet/year) and the Gold plan ($149/wallet/year). The former covers PIN recovery, while the latter covers PIN, estate, and passphrase recovery.
7. Personalization
With Cypherock’s core features out of the way, we’d like to mention something not many people talk about, but we find extremely important – brand support via personalization.
Cypherock’s personalization features are a great opportunity for brands to connect more meaningfully with their audience while offering top-tier security. By allowing companies to customize the packaging when ordering 50 or more units, Cypherock understands the importance of branding and user experience. This level of customization adds a personal touch that strengthens brand loyalty and leaves a lasting impression.
The crypto wallet company further shows care for its partners by offering unique customization options for larger orders. If you order 100 units or more, you can stamp the X1 Cards with your own NFTs, transforming them into exclusive, branded collector’s items. Additionally, you can give your community members a Cypherock X1 that’s already set up to work with your token, ensuring your users are fully equipped to secure their digital assets.
Integration and Compatibility
Cypherock X1 is integrated with WalletConnect, which enables you to interact with dApps and DeFi platforms directly from your wallet. To do that, you must install the cySync app, connect the Cypherock X1 device to your computer, and scan the QR code. Cypherock X1 supports 15+ dApps, including Uniswap, Lido, Gnosis Safe, and Zerion.
Cypherock is also integrated with Binance Connect, a fiat-to-crypto service that lets you buy and sell digital assets using 100+ fiat currencies, 300+ cryptocurrencies, 300+ payment methods, and Binance’s P2P trading services.
What’s more, Cypherock received a grant from NEAR Protocol to support its ecosystem. This means that you’ll be able to create and manage NEAR accounts within the cySync app, as well as send and receive NEAR tokens. Cypherock X1 stores your NEAR account within its device to avoid the risk of spoofing attacks (when bad actors impersonate another person or company) and errors in data entry.
As we already mentioned in our Cypherock X1 review, you can use the wallet as a seed phrase vault by importing seed phrases from up to four BIP39-compatible wallets, such as MetaMask, Phantom, Ledger, and Trezor.

Cypherock X1 vs Other Top Hardware Wallets
Now that you know what makes Cypherock X1 shine, here’s how it compares to other popular hardware wallets – Ledger, Ellipal, Trezor, and Tangem.
Cypherock X1 vs Ledger
Ledger is a non-custodial hardware wallet that supports 5,500+ digital assets. It offers four models – Nano S Plus, Nano X, Stax, and Flex. All models incorporate EAL5+ certified Secure Element chips and work with the Ledger Live app, which lets you buy and sell crypto, manage your portfolio, and gain access to DeFi and NFTs.
Ledger stores your private keys on a Secure Element chip, while Cypherock uses Shamir’s Secret Sharing. Moreover, Ledger supports restoring your account via a 24-word recovery phrase, while Cypherock eliminates the need for seed phrases, which makes it more secure. Ledger’s biggest drawback is that its firmware isn’t fully open-source, so you won’t be able to verify the security of your device, while Cypherock X1 uses fully open firmware.
Cypherock X1 vs Ellipal
Ellipal is an air-gapped cold wallet that supports 10,000+ digital assets and 46 blockchains. It stands out with its robust metal construction, anti-tamper technology, and QR-code-based transactions. Ellipal is a 100% air-gapped device, meaning your private keys stay offline at all times, while all transactions take place via QR codes.
Ellipal devices are made of metal, while Cypherock X1 is made of plastic, which makes them lighter but less durable. Moreover, Ellipal uses QR codes to sign transactions, while Cypherock will temporarily reconstruct your private key after you place two of your X1 cards on the vault. Unlike Cypherock, Ellipal has no native desktop app, so you can only use it on mobile devices.
Cypherock X1 vs Trezor
Trezor is a hardware wallet known for its open-source architecture, making all parts of its software code publicly available. It supports 9,000+ coins and integration with 30+ wallet apps. You can also use the Trezor Suite app to buy, sell, and swap crypto, manage NFTs, and stake tokens.
As mentioned before, Cypherock uses Shamir’s Secret Sharing algorithm, while Trezor uses a 12-word and a 24-word recovery seed phrase. However, Trezor also supports Shamir Backup (SLIP39), which means you can back up your private keys by creating multiple recovery shares. The biggest downside of Trezor devices is the lack of an iOS app.
Cypherock X1 vs Tangem
Tangem is a mobile-only hardware wallet that supports 6,000+ cryptocurrencies across 81 networks and is built for security and simplicity. It generates and stores your private keys offline, within the security chip, and the setup takes less than three minutes. The Tangem wallet comes as a set of 2 or 3 cards.
Cypherock X1 and Tangem are very similar in terms of design. Both use NFC technology and cards to store your private keys offline, and they both use an EAL6+ CC-certified chip. However, Cypherock splits your private key into five parts, while Tangem allows you to clone your private key to one or two backup cards, which is less reliable. On another negative note, Tangem is only compatible with mobile devices.
Is Cypherock X1 Worth It in 2025? Our Conclusion
If you’re seeking top-notch security and like the appeal of not having to store your seed phrase on paper or steel but rather having it completely decentralized, the Cypherock X1 is an excellent choice. Its innovative key-sharding technology makes it stand out as a leader and an innovator in the hardware wallet space.
While it may not come with all the bells and whistles of premium wallets, the Cypherock X1 offers something even more valuable: peace of mind. It supports over 9,000 digital assets and integrates with DeFi and NFTs, making it versatile for both casual holders and active investors. With its multi-device recovery system and long-term data retention, it’s a solid investment for anyone serious about protecting their digital assets, especially at the current discounted price of $159.
