Opera, an internet browser, today announced their intent to release a new version that boasts a built-in crypto wallet. The version, currently available in a private beta on Android, will also support Ethereum dapps (decentralized apps).

According to the blog post detailing this new version of the browser, both the wallet and the support for dapps comes as part of a process to further cryptocurrency adoption. They add that people are more likely to adopt new solutions if those are user-friendly and seamless.

“Users can now use Opera to access these emerging dapps. We’ve decided to support Ethereum, as it has the largest community of developers building dapps and has gathered a lot of momentum behind it. Opera with Crypto Wallet supports the Ethereum Web3 API, making interacting with these dapps seamless to the user.” Still, they intend to add support for more cryptocurrencies in the future.

Online payments with cryptocurrency will also be supported: “Users that choose to pay for their order using cryptocurrency on Coinbase Commerce-enabled merchants will be presented with a payment request dialog, asking them for their signature. The payment will then be signed and transmitted directly from the browser.”

If you want to participate in the private beta, you need to apply on their website.

Presentation of the Opera browser with Crypto Wallet:

Opera has already shown initiative in the cryptoverse through their browser. At the beginning of this year, they have announced that their integrated ad-blocker now has an anti-crypto mining feature on both their desktop and mobile versions.
