English Premier League club Watford FC is set to host a post-season event called the Crypto Cup at its home stadium on May 16.

Per an announcement on the club’s website, the event, which is being co-arranged by its main sponsorship partner Sportsbet, will see the club throw an “end-of-season party” at Vicarage Road, the club’s ground.

Organizers say that they want teams of fans and crypto enthusiasts to enter the competition by paying BTC 0.557 (or 5,000 euros, while BTC 0.557 is now valued at EUR 4,408) to their “chosen charity.”

In exchange, the teams will be offered the chance to “play on the hallowed turf” of Vicarage Road. Each team will be assigned the tutelage of a “Watford legend” – a former or current star player from the club – and compete for the “chance of lifting the Crypto Cup.”

Teams will also have access to the Watford FC changing rooms and showering facilities – before taking part in a “networking dinner,” cryptocurrency-related panel discussions and listening to talks from crypto experts.

The Sportsbet partnership has also seen the club this season open a “Bitcoin Box” section of premium seating at Vicarage Road. Fans can also pay the tidy sum of BTC 1.5 to post a message on the club’s billboard hoardings – potentially allowing football enthusiasts around the world the chance to read their messages.

Cryptocurrency-related sponsorship has taken off in the EPL this season in particular but could come under threat if Premier League chiefs decide to follow the lead of their Spanish counterparts. La Liga could be set to shoo Spanish clubs away from crypto, betting and forex-related financial services provider-related sponsorship deals, and clubs are now coming under increasing regulatory scrutiny.

Watford currently sit 17th in the EPL table, but on Sunday pulled off a major coup by defeating currently league leaders Liverpool – who had been undefeated in the EPL this season before their own visit to Vicarage Road.
