Its makers have confirmed that K-pop star Kwon Hyun-bin will play the male lead.
The drama is set to commence filming this month and, per its producers, quoted by media outlets such as Sports Donga, it will be named Romantic Hacker.
The drama will center on a hack at a fictional crypto trading platform named the Jeju International Crypto Exchange. Kwon will play the role of Jaemin, a genial college student with phenomenal hacking skills. Jaemin attempts to fight a gang of elite hackers hell-bent on robbing the exchange’s customers of their hard-earned money.
The star’s talent agency described the series as “an action-comedy based on blockchain-powered cryptocurrency.” Being a K-drama, however, especially one with the word “romantic” in its title, viewers can also expect a healthy dollop of romance to be mixed in.
The series, which will be aired online, will mark K-drama’s first-ever foray into the world of blockchain and crypto.
And it is bound to attract no shortage of interest from Kwon’s fanbase.
Kwon, born in 1997, began his showbiz journey when he was recruited by YG Entertainment, one of South Korea’s biggest K-pop talent agencies. After appearing on the K-pop-themed survival audition show Produce 101 Season 2, he debuted in the boyband JBJ.
He has since appeared in a number of TV and web-based drama series titles, as well as a slew of South Korean talk shows and variety TV titles.
