Cristiano Ronaldo Launches NFT Collection With Binance Crypto Exchange

“The legend is coming to Binance,” said the exchange.

Football giant Cristiano Ronaldo will be launching his non-fungible tokens (NFT) collection this Friday.

“My NFT collection is coming on November 18, exclusively on Binance,” said Ronaldo in a tweet. He added that fans can use a referral code to receive “a surprise when the collection drops.”

A Cristiano Ronaldo Mystery Box for the first 1.5 million new Binance users to use the code may include limited-edition Ronaldo NFTs, said the press release.

According to a Binance announcement,

“The CR7 NFT collection […] will be the first of a series of drops featuring the football icon Cristiano Ronaldo.”

The press release added that the future sets of the Cristiano Ronaldo NFT collection will be available in early 2023.

Meanwhile, the inaugural collection will feature seven animated statues with four rarity levels:

• Super Super Rare (SSR),
• Super Rare (SR),
• Rare (R),
• Normal (N).

Each rarity level has some benefits, including a personal message from Ronaldo and autographed merchandise.

Furthermore, the 45 highest value NFTs – 5 SSR and 40 SR – will be held for a 24-hour auction on the Binance NFT marketplace. Bidding prices will start at BUSD 10,000 for SSR and BUSD 1,700 for SR.

The remaining 6,600 NFTs – 600 R and 6,000 N – will be available on Binance starting at BUSD 77.

The press release added that,

“Each NFT statue depicts Ronaldo in an iconic moment from his life, from career-defining bicycle kicks to his childhood in Portugal.”

The exchange first announced a multi-year partnership with the player in late June this year. The latest announcement claimed that the product of this collaboration is “a first-of-its-kind experience, one that will change the NFT game forever,” adding:

“Starting this week, you’ll get a sneak peek at what we’ve been working on, and more surprises on what’s coming next.”

The initial, June announcement also stated that the move will help build on existing partnerships with the Argentine Football Association, the Brazilian Football Confederation, and professional sports clubs S.S. Lazio (IT) and FC Porto (PT).

At the time, they also said that registered Binance users in select countries would be able to purchase the collections using Binance Pay.

Collaborations between major sports players and crypto companies are becoming increasingly common. When it comes to football specifically, earlier this year, Argentine professional footballer Lionel Messi signed a deal worth over USD 20m to promote digital fan token company Socios.com. As part of the deal, Messi would be involved in a promotion campaign for Socios in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, per the Daily Mail, Ronaldo has been “ridiculed” by his fans for promoting this NFT collection just hours after accusing Manchester United of being a “marketing club”.
