Over the past few years, Kazakhstan has put a lot of effort into becoming a crypto powerhouse in the CIS region. Yet, the news coming from Kazakhstan paint a diverse picture of the future of cryptocurrencies in this Central Asian country.
For starters, Kazakhstan can be said to be a country of contrasts when it come to the crypto prospects, with its National Bank stating that cryptocurrencies should not be accepted as a means of payment back in 2018. Despite this, the huge unofficial crypto scene in the country has given birth to the fintech park Astana International Financial Center. Right now, it serves as the center of all activities related to the blockchain and cryptocurrencies, with its CEO calling for the state authorities to regulate cryptos. If all goes well based on grassroots initiatives coming from this institution, the Kazakhstan seems poised to become “the Singapore of blockchain” as it was dubbed back in 2018.
