Democratic frontrunner and current U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris may be “far more open” to emerging technologies such as crypto in the the U.S. presidential election, billionaire Mark Cuban told political media outlet Politico in an email interview this week.

Kamala Harris May Be More ‘Open’ To Crypto, Mark Cuban

“The feedback I’m getting, but certainly not confirmed by the VP, is that she will be far more open to business, (artificial intelligence), crypto, and government as a service,” Cuban said. “Changing the policies changes the message and lets everyone know she is in charge and open, literally, for business.”

Current U.S. President Joe Biden has widely supported a longstanding regulatory approach to the blockchain sector as a whole. However, new reports could indicate that Harris could be more receptive to digital innovation than her predecessor.

In another interview this week, Cuban told Decrypt that Harris’ team had reached out with “multiple questions” about cryptocurrency in general. “So I take that as a good sign,” Cuban said.

The 2024 U.S. Presidential Election Heats Up

Cuban’s comments come during a turbulent week for the Democratic Party after Biden dropped out of the presidential race after serving just one term.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” Biden said in a July 21 statement. “Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump.”

Republican nominee Donald Trump, on the other hand, has been a vocal advocate of digital assets on the campaign trail despite previously saying he was “not a fan” of cryptocurrencies.

In addition to his campaign accepting contributions in crypto, Trump and his wife, Melania, have both released their own NFT collections.

Trump’s selection of “Hillbilly Elegy” author J.D. Vance as his running mate further emphasizes this pro-crypto stance. Senator Vance, representing Ohio, previously disclosed Bitcoin holdings exceeding $100,000 in 2021.

The former reality television star is expected to speak at Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville later this week despite surviving an assassination attempt at a campaign stop in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.

“We are happy to report that Donald Trump is committed to delivering his speech in-person at Bitcoin 2024,” The Bitcoin Conference posted to X one day after Trump’s assassination attempt. “We are proud to host him and to share the solidarity of the global Bitcoin community and our universal commitment to free speech and peaceful democracy.”

Whether Harris will also address the Bitcoin Conference, potentially seeking to engage with crypto-interested voters, is yet to be confirmed.
