# North Korea

Based on the news coming from that country, North Korea is hardly the first place that comes to one’s mind when thinking of cryptocurrency industry. Yet, there are some signs that this country is making itself ready to embrace cryptos, with even the N. Korean authorities blowing wind into this technology’s sails. In 2019, North Korea organized what was dubbed the first ever international conference on cryptocurrency and blockchain. The event was reported as successful, drawing some 100 participants from various countries across the globe. This should hardly come off as a surprise, considering that the North Korean government is planning to make a state-wide push into the crypto world, with a particular focus being placed on cryptocurrency mining and an exchange platform sanctioned by the authorities. At the same time, the interest for cryptos in North Korea has its darker side, with the Korean hacker army being described as making numerous attempts to steal the users’ coins.
