WhiteBIT, a European cryptocurrency exchange, has become the first platform globally to achieve Level 3 certification under the Cryptocurrency Security Standard (CCSS).
This certification, developed by the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium (C4), is recognized as a rigorous benchmark for security practices in the cryptocurrency sector.
What is CCSS Level 3 Certification
The CCSS framework provides guidelines for securing cryptocurrency systems and complements established standards such as ISO 27001 and PCI DSS. Level 3, the highest tier, mandates advanced security measures, including:
- Multi-signature wallets to enhance fund protection.
- Stringent access controls to prevent unauthorized access.
- Comprehensive disaster recovery protocols.
- Regular penetration testing and audits of security infrastructure.
Audit Details and Process
Founded in 2018, WhiteBIT is one of Europe’s prominent centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, offering a wide range of services, including over 600 trading pairs, support for 300 digital assets, and nine fiat currencies. The platform has also forged partnerships with organizations such as FC Barcelona and VISA, signaling its growing footprint in both the cryptocurrency and mainstream markets.
Hacken, a cybersecurity firm accredited by C4, conducted the certification audit. Over 2.5 months, Hacken evaluated WhiteBIT’s security systems, including cold and hot wallet infrastructure. The review included an assessment of more than 100 security artifacts, staff interviews, and technical audits. The final 97-page report confirmed WhiteBIT’s compliance with the Level 3 requirements of the CCSS framework.
Implications for Users
According to the findings, the Level 3 certification brings the following enhancements to WhiteBIT users:
- Increased Security: Enhanced measures to safeguard user funds and private keys.
- Risk Mitigation: Systems designed to minimize human error and ensure only authorized access to sensitive infrastructure.
- Emergency Preparedness: Robust protocols to recover user assets in the event of unforeseen disruptions.
Industry Significance
Dmytro Yasmanovych, Head of Compliance at Hacken, commented:
“The successful completion of the CCSS audit for WhiteBIT reflects a strong commitment to advancing security in the cryptocurrency space. It is a step forward for industry-wide frameworks in web3 security.”The achievement is part of WhiteBIT’s broader strategy to strengthen trust in the crypto sector. Earlier in 2023, the exchange secured PCI DSS certification, highlighting its focus on protecting payment data.
