The inaugural Plan ₿ Forum El Salvador, an initiative backed by Tether to promote Bitcoin and blockchain technology, concluded on 31 January 2025 with approximately 2,500 participants in attendance.
The event, hosted in Tether’s new home base, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and developers to discuss the future of Bitcoin adoption and digital finance.
Key Announcements and Discussions
A major forum highlight was the announcement of USDT’s integration with Bitcoin’s base layer and the Lightning Network. Developed in collaboration with Lightning Labs and powered by Taproot Assets, this integration enhances transaction efficiency while leveraging Bitcoin’s security features. The news was shared during a fireside chat between Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, and Elizabeth Stark, CEO of Lightning Labs.
Ardoino commented on the forum’s impact, saying that the first Plan ₿ Forum in El Salvador had exceeded all expectations and demonstrated the growing role of Bitcoin in global finance. He noted that bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and developers in a country that had adopted Bitcoin at a national level highlighted its real-world potential.
The event also included unveiling a second Satoshi Nakamoto statue, following the first in Lugano, Switzerland. This tribute symbolizes the expanding influence of Bitcoin and the growing connection between El Salvador and Lugano as hubs for Bitcoin adoption.
