Make-A-Wish is asking for crypto donations through its partnership with digital asset donation vehicle The Giving Block, a press release this week from the nonprofit organization shows.

Make-A-Wish Looks For Holiday Crypto Donations

According to the Make-A-Wish press release, the Phoenix-headquartered organization is looking to drive up crypto donations this year as they strive to increase their outreach to seriously ill children ahead of the holiday season.

The foundation estimates that 100,000 kids will be diagnosed with a critical illness in December alone, with 98% children and their parents claiming the experience is important to an ill child.

“Supporting charitable initiatives with cryptocurrency sends the message that crypto has a purpose beyond financial gains—it can change lives and create meaningful social impact,” said Luciano Manzo, President and CEO at Make-A-Wish International.

“Critical illness steals childhood from a child but, through helping to grant wishes, this unique group of donors has the power to restore childhood and build resilience in these children,” he continued.

The Giving Block Outlines Crypto Donation Stats

News of Make-A-Wish’s request for crypto donations comes amidst an increasing interest in the power of digital assets to enact powerful social change.

According to The Giving Block’s 2024 Annual Industry Report on the State of Crypto Philanthropy, more than $2 billion worth of cryptocurrency is estimated to have been donated by January 2024.

Similarly, over 56% of top U.S. charities currently accept crypto donations – including St Jude’s Children Research Hospital, United Way, Direct Relief, Feeding America, and Good 360 – up 12% from the previous year.

Meanwhile, nearly 68% utilize The Giving Block’s services in order to fundraise digital assets.

Make-A-Wish collaboration with The Giving Block started years ago, providing “children living with critical illnesses like cancer and neurological conditions can now look forward to experiencing their wishes come true.”

According to the organization’s most recent press release, the partnership allowed Make-A-Wish to expand its efforts into three new countries.

“Cryptocurrency presents the greatest intersection of wealth, youth, and motivation to give. With 600 million users globally and trillions of dollars invested, nonprofits that do not tap into this movement risk being left in its wake,” said Pat Duffy, Co-Founder of The Giving Block.

“We are thrilled to partner with Make-A-Wish International to welcome the next generation of donors,” Duffy concluded.

Currently, The Giving Block’s website accepts donations in Ethereum, Bitcoin and USDC.
