How Crypto and Volunteering Help Ukraine

In the light of recent events in Ukraine, cryptocurrency and in general decentralized finances have stood out showing undeniable usefulness. The ease by which one can transfer funds from one part of the world to the other without an intermediary – has helped tremendously in supporting and uniting people across the world in aiding Ukrainians in need.

It’s exactly the unity that distinguishes decentralized finances from its counterpart. All in all thanks to its innately collaborative nature and peer-to-peer quality. In a sense, one can say that DeFi space has managed to create a precedent – and one to follow at that.

We have seen incredible support from outside the Ukraine that goes far and beyond anything we have seen. However, we tend to overlook how things are within the country and what support the crypto hub like Ukraine managed to garner inside.

From the very beginning of the first Russia-Ukraine conflict, a plethora of volunteer centers have sprawled out, aimed to assist the people in the toughest of times. To this day, with even more vigor and strength, volunteers play a decisive role outside the actual battlefield. This includes a wide array of supplies: humanitarian as well as defense equipment. Volunteers have managed to set up incredible logistics and now are one of the most crucial cogs in the success of Ukraine.

Phoenix – Volunteer Center

One of such volunteer centers is Phoenix. Phoenix is one of the largest volunteer centers currently operating in Ukraine. Their operational workflow hinges largely on Blockchain technology, not merely as a form of payment but even more so as a comprehensive logistic chain. They extensively work together with some of the notable and established projects. The list includes HAPI, NEAR, Aurora, Boca Chica, and AllBridge. Not only are these projects of immense help in raising awareness and financially aiding the cause but some of them also directly help the Government of Ukraine. 

For example, the project HAPI, an on-chain cybersecurity solution, helps to identify the wallets of the Russian elites that directly finance the war. By closely cooperating with the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation, HAPI and its partners have successfully detected, traced, and suspended dozens of illegal transactions, uncovered a number of Russian elites’ wallets, and, with the help of Binance and Whitebit exchanges, put a stop to laundering of the assets.

Phoenix is more than just a volunteer center, it has become the hub of Ukrainian resolve both on- and offline, providing sorely needed aid to Ukraine directly and its people. However, Phoenix is not a government-funded organization and it’s only sustainable because of the sheer support and compassion. Procurement of all of the necessary equipment and maintenance of logistic chains require an unimaginable financing endeavor. And for the volunteer organization like Phoenix finances very quickly may become a roadblock.
