Aavegotchi’s Gotchiverse Looks to the Future While Honoring the Past, Launches March 31 st

Gaming and technological advancement have a well-established symbiotic relationship. At times, the constant innovation and expansion of the industry can be overwhelming, especially for many traditional gamers who still reminisce about hunching over arcade cabinets or jamming controller buttons on the Nintendo 64. In creating the Gotchiverse, however, the developers of Pixelcraft Studios’ Aavegotchi Protocol have crafted an engaging DeFi MMORPG that feels both groundbreaking and familiar.

Aavegotchi protocol is an open-source, community-owned NFT gaming protocol, enabling true asset ownership for gamers. In it, players own Aavegotchis, playable NFT avatars in the form of adorable, pixelated ghosts. These digital pets are staked with interest-bearing aTokens, increasing their value over time. In addition, players can increase the rarity of their Aavegotchi by equipping wearables, playing minigames, and participating in governance as a member of the AavegotchiDAO. Players purchase on-chain assets and reap other rewards by trading GHST, the game’s eco-governance token and base currency.

With the release of the Gotchiverse REALM on March 31 st, players will be able to use their Aavegotchis to interact with and explore a sprawling metaverse that combines sandbox and strategy elements. Players can socialize, join Guilds, participate in mini-games, farm for resources, buy and sell various NFTs, and engage in combat. All the while, gameplay is complemented by an immersive retro aesthetic with bright, 2D visuals reminiscent of 80s video game art.

Two of the three zones that constitute the Gotchiverse, the Citaadel and the Grid, will be available for exploration in the weeks and months following this alpha release. The Citaadel offers stability, protecting Aavegotchis from their enemies, while the Grid will entice those interested in high-risk, high-reward gameplay. Each zone contains interactive landmarks steeped in Gotchiverse lore, and REALM parcels that hold valuable elements called Gotchus Alchemica.

Collecting Gotchus Alchemica is one of the overarching goals of the Gotchiverse. These four elements—FOMO, KEK, ALPHA, and FUD—are ERC-20 tokens distributed among REALM parcels in varying concentrations. They can be freely traded on the Gotchus Alchemica Exchange (GAX), a DEX that supports GHST pairs for each element, or combined to build Installations, important structures that confer perks to a given REALM parcel and can also be traded for GHST.

All Aavegotchis earn a daily stipend of the elements. Those in Guilds can receive additional Alchemica by channeling it together while gathered on a REALM parcel equipped with a Gotchi Lodge Installation. Aavegotchis can also roam the Grid searching for loose Alchemica spills, but they run the risk of bumping into their arch nemeses, the Lickquidators, one-time use NFTs that function as free-to-play entry points into the Gotchiverse. Players can also harvest the tokens from their REALM parcel, which contain either Humble, Reasonable, or Spacious amounts of Alchemica, with the exact amounts determined by Chainlink VRF, a random number generator.

Parcel owners can deploy their Aavegotchis (and borrow others) to farm for Alchemica and build Harvester Installations to passively accrue the materials.

Owning REALM parcels is critical to accumulating Gotchus Alchemica. The 155,069 REALM of the Citaadel and the Grid will be distributed across the next two years (Act 1). The remaining REALM, constituting a third zone called The Beyond, will be released across Acts 2 and 3. Eventually, a total of 420,069 REALM parcels will be made available for purchase. 80% of it will be distributed through a GBM auction, a patent-pending system licensed to Pixelcraft Studios, that allows participants to select and bid on available parcels. Those who do not win have their bids refunded and receive an “incentive” reward of GHST.

The remaining 20% of REALM parcels will be distributed to players through Chainlink VRFpowered Raffles. These Raffles make it possible for players without large amounts of capital to acquire and own REALM parcels by submitting Drop Tickets, ERC-1155 NFTs that can be earned through myriad engagements with the Aavegotchi ecosystem.

Already an ambitious gaming protocol, Aavegotchi represents GameFi at its best. Yet, the flagship metaverse game is impressive for more than its novel take on play-to-earn games; The Gotchiverse infuses complex tokenomics and intricate DeFi infrastructure with the careful world building and rich lore of traditional games like “Clash of Clans” and “Stardew Valley.” As a result, Pixelcraft Studios is poised to establish an entirely new genre of GameFi, one that is exciting and immersive to crypto-hungry NFT gamers and old-school RPG players alike.
