L’entrepreneure technologique et rappeuse Heather Morgan, mieux connue sous son nom de scène ‘Razzlekhan’, et son mari Ilya Lichtenstein, ont plaidé coupables de blanchiment d’argent en lien avec le piratage de la plateforme de trading Bitfinex<\/strong>.<\/p>

Selon une annonce faite jeudi par la cour fédérale américaine. Heather Morgan a également plaidé coupable d’une accusation de fraude<\/strong>.<\/p>

Coupables de blanchiment de milliards de dollars en bitcoin<\/h2><\/span>

Ilya Lichtenstein, âgé de 35 ans, et Heather Morgan, 33 ans, connue sous son nom de scène \u00ab\u00a0Razzlekhan\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong>, ont plaidé coupables de complot en vue de blanchir de l’argent en relation avec le piratage en 2016<\/a> de la plateforme de trading de cryptomonnaies Bitfinex<\/strong>. Ilya Lichtenstein fait face à une peine de prison pouvant aller jusqu’à 20 ans<\/strong>.<\/p>

Heather Morgan, quant à elle, a reconnu sa culpabilité dans un complot de blanchiment d’argent<\/strong> et une tentative de fraude<\/strong> à l’encontre des États-Unis. Ces charges pourraient lui coûter jusqu’à 10 ans de prison<\/strong>, d’après les informations fournies par le département de la justice américaine.<\/p>

Le couple, qui est accusé d’avoir blanchi plus de 4 milliards de dollars en bitcoin<\/strong> en rapport avec le piratage de Bitfinex en 2016, a été arrêté l’année dernière. Il est à noter qu’avant son arrestation, Morgan donnait des conseils sur comment protéger les entreprises des cybercriminels et comment perfectionner l’ingénierie sociale.<\/p>

Selon le département de la justice, Ilya Lichtenstein a utilisé plusieurs outils de piratage pour accéder au réseau de Bitfinex et transférer des bitcoins vers un portefeuille de cryptomonnaies sous son contrôle<\/strong>. <\/p>

Bien qu’il n’ait pas reconnu sa culpabilité<\/strong> en ce qui concerne les accusations spécifiques liées à l’infraction informatique, il a fait appel à sa femme pour blanchir les fonds une fois ces derniers dérobés.<\/p>

L’affaire s’entrelace avec d’autres événements d’importance nationale<\/h2><\/span>

La date de leur comparution pour plaider coupable a été anticipée<\/strong> afin d’éviter d’éventuels problèmes logistiques en lien avec l’audience judiciaire de l’ancien président Donald Trump, prévue le même jour<\/strong> à Washington D.C.<\/p>

L’année dernière, le juge du tribunal de district a mentionné que ce dossier comportait des informations classifiées, nécessitant une présentation sous scellé<\/strong>. Il a par conséquent signé une ordonnance de protection, stipulant que seules les personnes munies d’une autorisation de sécurité peuvent consulter ces informations.<\/p>

Bitfinex : récupération partielle des fonds<\/h2><\/span>

Dans une tournure positive pour l’industrie des cryptomonnaies, Bitfinex, l’échange touché par ce piratage, a réussi à récupérer une somme de 314 000 dollars<\/a> en espèces ainsi que 6,917 BCH (Bitcoin Cash), équivalant à 2 000 dollars<\/strong>. Ces fonds provenaient du hack qui s’est produit en 2016.<\/p>

Avant cette avancée, Bitfinex avait offert une récompense<\/a> de plusieurs millions de dollars à quiconque pourrait l’aider à retrouver les pirates responsables du vol de près de 120 000 bitcoins (BTC)<\/strong> survenu en août 2016. <\/p>

À l’époque, la valeur des bitcoins volés à Bitfinex était considérable. Aujourd’hui, elle est estimée à environ 1,34 milliard de dollars<\/strong>, soulignant l’ampleur de ce vol dans l’histoire de la cryptomonnaie.<\/p>
