Os problemas legais de Satish Kumbhani, fundador do golpe de criptomoeda BitConnect, continuam – a polícia indiana o prendeu depois que um advogado disse às autoridades que ele havia sido fraudado em cerca de BTC 220 (US $ 5,2 milhões) por meio de uma série de golpes perpetrados por Kumbhani e outros.<\/p>

Em fevereiro passado, o Departamento de Justiça dos EUA (DoJ) acusou Kumbhani, que se apresentou como o “líder asiático” do golpe, por supostamente enganar investidores globalmente e defraudá-los em cerca de US$ 2,4 bilhões. O golpista foi acusado de montar um esquema Ponzi, entre outros, e enfrenta uma pena máxima total de até 70 anos de prisão. A Comissão de Valores Mobiliários dos EUA (SEC) não conseguiu localizar Kumbhani.<\/p>

O BitConnect foi lançado em fevereiro de 2016 com muito alarde, beneficiando-se das maiores ondas do mercado altista que entrou em colapso no início de 2018. Ele se apresentou como uma plataforma de empréstimo de criptomoedas que permitia aos usuários trocar bitcoin por um token nativo chamado bitconnect coin (BCC), prometendo pagamentos pesados.<\/p>
