Um juiz em Washington DC, EUA, negou fiança a Ilya Lichtenstein enquanto liberou sua esposa, Heather Morgan, sob fiança.<\/p>

A dupla já havia recebido fiança de um juiz de Nova York por uma suposta conspiração de lavar US$ 4,5 bilhões em bitcoin (BTC)<\/a> roubado do hack de 2016 da exchange de criptomoedas Bitfinex<\/strong>.<\/p>

Lichtenstein (34) e Morgan (31) foram presos por policiais federais na cidade de Nova York na semana passada depois que as autoridades obtiveram acesso a arquivos dentro de uma conta online controlada por Lichtenstein que continha as chaves privadas de 94.000 BTC (US$ 4,1 bilhões) roubados da Bitfinex.<\/p>

Na época, o juiz estabeleceu fiança para Morgan em US$ 3 milhões e para Lichtenstein em US$ 5 milhões.<\/p>

No entanto, o juiz distrital dos EUA, Beryl Howell, revogou a decisão de concessão de fiança a Lichtenstein, enquanto manteve a decisão que permitiu que Morgan continuasse livre até o julgamento.<\/p>

Bloomberg informou que o juiz Howell disse que a motivação para ambos fugirem “aumentou exponencialmente”, acrescentando que “as evidências sugerem fortemente que o Sr. Lichtenstein tem mais facilidade e habilidade” que Morgan, que alegou não ter acesso às criptomoedas roubadas já que elas eram controladas pelo marido.<\/p>

Em um anúncio, o Departamento de Justiça<\/strong> (DOJ) disse na semana passada que os hackers da Bitfinex, depois de conseguirem violar os sistemas da exchange em 2016, enviaram 119.754 BTC para uma carteira digital controlada por Lichtenstein.<\/p>

“Nos últimos cinco anos, aproximadamente 25.000 desses bitcoins roubados foram transferidos da carteira de Lichtenstein por meio de um complicado processo de lavagem de dinheiro que terminou com alguns dos fundos roubados sendo depositados em contas financeiras controladas por Lichtenstein e Morgan”, disse o DOJ.<\/p>

O casal enfrenta uma pena máxima de 25 anos de prisão e é acusado de conspiração para cometer lavagem de dinheiro e conspiração para fraudar os Estados Unidos, segundo o DOJ.<\/p>

Conforme relatado, Morgan é uma colaboradora da Forbes and Inc que também se autodenomina a “Crocodilo de Wall Street”, e seu marido Lichtenstein afirma ser um desenvolvedor Web 3.<\/p>
