Japanese manga writers can’t get enough of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. First there was the manga-themed monacoin (MONA) and its accompanying MonaComi manga comic series. Then came a bitcoin (BTC)-themed manga series that revolves around the origins of the world’s most popular cryptocurrency.

The protagonist of the new series explains the concept of blockchain, distributed ledgers and cryptocurrencies to a captivated time-traveling hero.

And the latest addition to this fast-growing arsenal of crypto-themed literary art is Nobunaga Blockchain – a series all about sparking social revolution using the power of blockchain technology.

The new title was penned by a former financial sector worker who has decided to put his blockchain technology expertise to use in the world of manga writing.

Per a press release from publisher Gentosha, the series centers around a female employee at an IT company. She butts heads with a stubborn and slow-witted manager who frustrates her efforts to introduce a blockchain technology-powered business platform.

The female protagonist vows to become proficient in blockchain technology and “overthrow the old social system.”

Things get fantastic when she is aided by a time-traveling revolutionary hero from Japan’s past – who appears to be just as keen on the idea of blockchain technology as she is. Together, the duo plots to “create a new social structure” where everything is decentralized, smart contracts are the norm and cryptocurrencies replace conventional fiats.

The first issue (“Block 1”), available here, makes numerous references to blockchain technology, as well as a couple of bitcoin references.

The publisher has called on readers to chime in with their own questions and comments about blockchain.

The press release authors quote the series’ artist as stating,

“I honestly didn’t know much about blockchain technology before I started work on this title, but I’m now amazed every day by its potential to become a world-changing technology. The writer has made it very easy to understand, and came up with a blockchain-themed storyline.”

The series even has a real-life blockchain backer, in the form of Japanese blockchain HR and education company TART.

The firm’s CEO opined that the new series could help “people who know nothing about blockchain develop an interest” in the technology.

In Japan, it seems, the relationship between bitcoin, blockchain, anime and manga continues to deepen by the day.
